A Woman of Howard
A Woman of Howard
“A Woman of Howard” is a love letter to Washington, D.C., a city that has always felt like home, even when it wasn’t where I was raised. Born in D.C., I’ve carried a quiet connection to the District throughout my life. When I finally lived there, that connection deepened into something more profound: a sense of belonging, of community, of creative energy that pulsed through every street and story.
This painting is my homage to that spirit. At its heart is Howard University, a cornerstone of Black excellence and cultural legacy. To me, Howard represents more than an institution, it’s a symbol of pride, resilience, and the generational power of education and identity. The woman in this piece embodies that legacy. She stands not just as a student or alumna, but as a vessel of history, hope, and forward motion.
